Vintage French ceramic decorative stein by Gustave Reynaud, Le Mrier studio (circa 1960s). A delightful drinking vessel (or preferably a small flower vase perhaps?) with handle in the unmistakable Le Mrier Provenal style with their trademark stylised plant life. The underlying glaze is a delicate off-white, the decor is in a rich mulberry red with other hues in blue, green and subdued yellow. In good overall condition commensurate with age and usage. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Le Mrier’s maker’s mark appears on the underside.
About Le Mrier : Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery, Le Mrier (Mulberry Tree), in Vallauris, France in 1955. He produced earthenware designed in conjunction with his well known brother-in-law, Jean Derval, as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter JF Descombes and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village. After Reynaud’s death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984.
