Long a devotee of classical themes, Coates drew inspiration from caryatids sculpted female figures used as support pillars in ancient Greek architecture. Coates infuses each piece from the series, like this charming Bucket Vase, with subtle human qualities: feminine, curvy bodies with arms stretched overhead supporting glass discs.
