The 606th Air Control Squadron (606 ACCS) is a United States Air Force unit under the operational control of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and U.S. Northern Command. Based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, it provides air battle management command and control for the defense of North America. The squadron was established in 1980, assuming responsibility for the Alaskan Air Defense Sector. Its mission is to ensure the aerospace warning, aerospace control, and battle management requirements for the defense of North America through integrated and joint operations with the U.S. Army, Navy, and Canadian counterparts. The 606 ACCS operates the E-3 Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft to provide continuous airborne surveillance and to direct the movement of friendly and civilian aircraft within its area of responsibility.
