The squadron saw action during notable campaigns such as Operation Torch and Operation Drago.Post-World War II, the 36th Fighter Squadron has been assigned to various units and bases, including Korea, Vietnam, and Europe. It has flown numerous aircraft types throughout its history, including the F-86 Sabre, F-100 Super Sabre, F-4 Phantom II, and currently operates the F-15E Strike Eagle. The squadron is currently stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, where it falls under the 366th Fighter Wing.The primary mission of the 36th Fighter Squadron is air defense and close air support for ground forces.
