This beautiful etching representing a man holding a pigeon in the palm of his hand, as the title ”the lover of pigeons” suggests, demonstrating a full mastery of this artistic medium, is titled in blue ink on lower left margin and on lower right has the inscription in ble ink D.K.V.. Arthur Kampf (Aachen, 1864 Castrop-Rauxel, 1950 ) The German history painter, associated with the Dsseldorf school of painting, began study under Peter Janssen, at the Kunstakademie Dsseldorf from 1879 to 1881. After completing his education he began the professor career and also became a member of the Prussian Academy of Arts, and gave drawing lessons, notably to Prince August Wilhelm, son of Wilhelm II. In 1944, Kampf was one of 24 artists, architects, authors, composers, actors, and singers added to the ”Special list” of the Gottbegnadeten list, meaning he was considered absolutely indispensable.
