Stunning mid-century modern Murano sommerso glass bowl by Flavio Poli (Italy, 1960s). Made of thick blue and yellow glass. Perfectly works as an ashtray, a vide poche, a catchall or just as a display piece on any table. Extremely decorative. Quite heavy (1.4 kg). Height: 7 cm/2.8”; width: 17 cm/6.7”; depth: 15 cm/5.9”. Very good vintage condition overall. No chips, no cracks. Light wear (scratches) consistent with age and use.
“Sommerso” (Italian for ”submerged”) is a technique developed in Murano in the 1930s which became very popular in the 1950s/60s. The result is a glass with contrasting colours that is commonly caused by a clear layer.
