The 73rd Special Operations Squadron is a component of the United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC). This squadron specializes in conducting unconventional warfare, counter-terrorism operations, and irregular warfare missions that require unparalleled expertise, adaptability, and precision. The squadron operates MC-130H Combat Talon II aircraft, which are modified C-130 Hercules cargo planes, equipped for low-level night infiltration, airdrop, and extraction missions. The 73rd SOS has a long history dating back to World War II and has been involved in numerous significant operations such as the Vietnam War, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Its primary mission is to deliver personnel and equipment by parachute or airland, conduct psychological warfare, and perform specialized airborne support during amphibious landings. The squadron operates out of Hurlburt Field, Florida, and its motto is “Deeds Not Words.”
