The squadron’s primary aircraft is the F-15C Eagle, a twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter designed to gain and maintain air supremacy in aerial combat. Established on March 20, 1947, as part of the Oregon Air National Guard, the squadron has seen service during both peacetime and wartime, including being mobilized for active duty during the Vietnam War. Throughout its history, the 162nd Fighter Squadron’s mission has been to ensure air sovereignty and defense of the U.S., as well as providing quick response capabilities in support of civil authorities during emergencies.
