It was first activated during World War II and played significant roles in both European and Pacific campaigns. The Fourth Army was disestablished on August 25, 1946, but it was subsequently reactivated as the First Army and the Third Army before being redesignated again as the Fourth Army in 1983. Throughout its history, the Fourth Army has been a key component of the U.S. military structure, serving in various operational and training capacities. The army headquarters is currently located at Fort Carson, Colorado.
